Durians

Its been ages since I had any durians. This afternoon went out with mum and we came back with this sinful indulgence. It was great, fantastic and really satisfying and the best thing was the seed was so tiny. Flesh of the durian was sweet, not too bitter ( I don't like the bitter durians) yet firm. Pure bliss :-)

Home Cook Sumptuous Lunch - Kai Zhao (Chicken Wine)

Saturday-19/09/09. Previously I came accross a recipe for Kai Zhao (Chicken Wine) from this blog http://thelittleteochew.blogspot.com/ so I decided that I will try it myself. On my lunch menu today is Freshly Sliced Abalone from the can, Broccoli fried with straw mushorooms and sliced abalone (from the same can of course!) and last but not least the Kai Zhao (Chicken Wine).

SLICED ABALONE

One of my favourite foods. Although should be eaten only on occassions, just could not resist the temptation to open a can for lunch today. One should pamper oneself when one sees the need for some pampering right?! Biting into a slice of abalone was like the floating in heaven type of exprience I thorougly enjoyed. Shiok!!!

BROCCOLI WITH STRAW MUSHROOMS AND SLICED ABALONE
Fried the above with garlic, ginger slices, dried scallops etc. Very fragrant and delicious. Oh and added some of the Can abalone sauce into the vegies. This really enhanced the taste.

KAI ZHAO (CHICKEN WINE)

Many thanks to the recipe which enabled me to cook up this satisfying dish on my first attempt. I did however modified it a little. I marinated the chicken with the light sauce, dark sauce directly. I also added some can abalone sauce in place of some of the water. This dish was DELISH! Could not get enough of it but I had to stop myself from over eating.

Overall I think it was a good attempt for me today as it's been ages since I last cooked. Gone were my overseas student days when I cooked much more often. Usually kitchen belongs to only one woman in the house and in this case, my mum!!! So I really don't wanna fight over the kitchen with her (Yes I know, excuses for myself!).

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant (Main-ECP)

Friday-18/09/09 Went to Long Beach for Dinner. My plan was to just order a Steam Crab and an Asparagus as I was not that hungry. Anyway persuasive waitress suggested that the set menu now was good value for money so was psychoed by her to take the $93++ set menu for 2. She also instigated me to either choose Black Pepper Crab or Chilli Crab, no point going for Steam Crab.

BLACK PEPPER CRABS

Black Pepper Crabs suppose to be the highlight of the set menu. Tasty, not too peppery but it did not give me that Wow,Oomph factor that I was hoping for.
BBQ FISH

BBQ Nicola Fish or something like that, cannot remeber the name. Was told it was a fresh water fish and as I hated the Mud taste of fresh water fish was hesitant, however Waitress assured me there was no mud taste whatsoever and this BBQ fish is a very popular dish among the customers. Surprisingly they BBQ it pretty well, quite fresh, mud taste was barely there and was quite nice to dip it with the accompanying chilli sauce they provided.
OTAH

House made Otah was ordinary. Nothing special.
FRIED EE-FU NOODLES

Ee-Fu Noodles has always been made favourite carbo at a restaurant. However, this was on the dry and sweet side, stingy with the Chives (less than 10 pieces ?), less than 10 pieces of mushrooms too. I think they cut back on the ingredients. Disappointing. . .

CORN PUDDING

This was the complimentary Corn pudding dessert from the set menu. I think they incorporated the evaporated milk into the pudding. Not too sweet, just nice. Very nice finish to the meal as it adds a tinge of sweetness to your taste buds.

Overall not one of my best meals but full and satisfied. Total Damage of the meal for 2 pax is $115.

Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee

Thursday-17/09/09 ARghhhHHH...Ta Pau Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee back to office and I just DEVOURED the whole packet! *Burp* As you realise there is no pics because I was halfway through it before I realised I forget to take pics again.

This is my first time trying the Mee here at my office. Been craving it the past few days after seeing Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee on someone's food blog. Anyway the Mee here is hmm TASTY, wet type (I don't like it dry), 2 prawns in it were pretty fresh, lots of sotong but the meat they used to fry this was too lean. However they did throw in a bunch of Fried Pork Lard on top of the noodles to compensate for the lean meat I suppose ( I DID NOT take the LARD hor!). No wonder yesterday I saw a lot of people ordering this Mee. Well it was a satisfactory lunch. Would have been blissed if I could end it with a slice of CAKE! YumZ :-)

Emtech Wellness and A Glass of Red Wine

Headed straight for Singpost Paya Lebar after my work today Wednesday 16/09/09. Wanna know why?! Trying out this detox machine thingy. Check out their website to know more http://www.emtechwellness.com/

A lot of people with health conditions experience improvements after being on this machine. Well as for me, so far so good? Or Maybe not, eczema on the legs is itching BIG TIME! Supposedly this is called the RECOVERY symptoms. Anyway they of course recommend us to buy the machine home to do but who can afford that sort of price?!? Since I cannot, I will have to make it a point to visit the centre at least 4-5 times a week to use the machine. Anyway I finish my treatment at about 7plus and headed home.

Now enjoying a glass of red wine while updating my blog. This is all for health sake people. Drink a glass of red wine everyday.

Oh and the Omega 3 fish oil, Evening Primrose Oil and Acai Berries Extra Capsules that I ordered from the States have arrived today. Popped the pills and ewwww boy did the fish oil smelled FISHY! However I guess it beats taking Cod Liver Oil at anytime. That really SUCKED big time. Nearly puked it out each time.

Tian Fu Steamboat Buffet

You would imagine after nearly two days of gorging, time to give the stomach a rest but wrong! we went for dinner on Monday 14/09/09 at the above. Heard pretty good reviews so had to try it. Paid $18.80++ per pax. Aircon was cooling which was very important eating steamboat in this hot weather.

Anyway ordered the wrong stock. Highly recommended was the satay soup base which my taste buds did not like. Should have taken the Tom Yum Soup Base. The other fish head soup base was okay, however slightly salty, I suspect they OD on the MSG!

Anyway one good thing about this buffet is not self service like those Bugis Area one. Over here you order from the menu which they serve to you. I will comment on a few of the stuff I ordered.

1. Crabs - Not Available on Buffet List which I was hoping for.
2. Prawns - A Little disappointing, not as fresh as I expected it to be.
3. Clams - OK not too bad
4. Special Pork - With fat, not to be over eaten.
5. Chicken - Fresh, tender pieces
6. Water Cress - Green and Fresh
7. Golden Mushrooms - Looks Dry, did not seem very fresh.
8. Fish Carp Slice - Fresh and Firm

Overall, for the price we paid (Slightly higher than Bugis Area Steamboats) I prefer to come back to this place. As we get served and Good Cooling Restaurant to seat in and enjoy the steamboat.

Relaxation Weekend - Siloso Beach Resort @ Sentosa 13/09/09-14/09/09

Before the Bak Kut Teh Brunch, we had purchase 2 bottles of white (1 brown brothers moscato, a mild 5% and a Pearly Bay Bubble, another mild 8%) and a big bag of CHEEZELS which was my ultimate comfort food and a bottle of Lay's Stax-Sour Cream & Onion Flavour (Big Mistake! Lay's Stax did not taste as good as the normal ones) for our get away at Siloso Beach Resort. Poor Singaporeans, where else can we go for a short getaway?

Anyway ridiculous official check in time of 3pm. We requested an early check in at 1pm (subject to availabilty as highlighted by hotel) as any time before 1pm they were going to charge us extra! Anyway we manage to check in at 12.15pm or so , FOC of course. Who on earth is going to pay extra to check in at 12pm (Most hotels I know in Singapore check in time is 12pm!)?

They kindly upgraded up to Deluxe room (5th floor), pool level but no sea view. I think Sea View was 7th floor and above. Superior rooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Anyway most Singaporeans would have checked in on Saturday and out on Sunday. So when we were there on Sunday, would have been low occupancy already. Tried to request for a late check out on Monday but they only gave us till 1pm.

After putting down our luggage, went to walk around the hotel and check out the place. Than we changed and headed for the pool. Took the Cheezels, wine and had our private little party at the pool side. Luckily the staff did not chase us away for not ordering from their own F & B Service. We ate, drank and swim. Heavenly ~ ~ ~ After couple of hours there, we headed for Siloso beach to swim as opposite the Siloso reosrt is Cafe Del Mar, playing some very happening music, with lots of Bikini Clad Babes and Hunks in Shorts! Beach was bustling with activity. Spotted one very HIAO Girl, I think model wannabe or something doing all sorts of poses for the camera. Funny but entertaining haha. She seem oblivious to the surrounding world. By the time were were done swimming at the beach, time to go back and shower and take the monorail to vivo to get another bottle of bubbly (Jacobs Creek) as no kick from first two bottles!

By the time we were headed for dinner, it was almost 8pm already. Funny how the time flies when you are relaxing and on holiday. Went to this place called Coastes located on Siloso Beach itself. Seated Al Fresco. Weather was good and windy. One down point though was the smell and smoke of the finale fireworks from the musical show which floated over to Coastes with the wind direction.

We ordered a Seafood Stew ($ 26) and 3 pcs-Chicken Wings ($ 9). The Seafood Stew was a very mediterranean style dish, ample portion for 2. It was served with garlic bread. Dip it into the stew very shiok. Chicken wings were bbq with a tinge of sweetness to them, accompanied with spicy sambal chilli. They were very good as well. After dinner headed back to the room to rest as we were quite beat from the swimming, sun and sea etc.

Next Morning - Monday 14/09/09 woke up for our American Buffet Breakfast at Siloso Beach Resort. Pretty Disappointing spread. I will list my disappointment below. As you know usually eating buffet breakfast at hotels will cause me to be SO STUFFED but this was not the case at all!

1. NO BACON?!?!

2. Food served (Cream Potatoes, Omelette, Scramble Eggs) was pretty plain tasting. Maybe I was expected to put my own salt which I could not find anywhere?

3. Fried Noodle Standard was Inconsistent (First round noodles not bad. 2nd round noodles which was served had the rawest bean sprouts and they must have ran out of salt and overdosed on water)

Anyway did not really go and reload our plates. Left not with empty stomach but neither with a bloated stomach! After breakfast we headed for the beach for final shaded tan and swim than back to the pool to swim again before it was time to say Goodbye to Nuaing here.

We headed to Vivo City and caught a Movie called Blood Ties, Singapore production. Better than expected considering it was a Made In Singapore. Very violent and gruesome scenes. So Watch it if your heart can take it.

Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha

Sunday 13/09/09 Brunch at the above. I Love the teochew type of Bak Kut Teh. Peppery Soup which gives you that ooomph! I will always order the "Pai Gu" because the meat is more tender. You Tiao is a must to dip into the peppery soup or into the Pig's Leg Gravy. *Drools* I like the Chai Buay (Salted Veg) here also because it is not overly salty unlike some places which serve very salty unpalatable Chai Buay. If you have more people you may want to consider the Intestines or Pig Stomach or other Innards (Kidney, liver etc.) if you are a fan of those.

Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat Restaurant (Serangoon Road)

Don't mean to sound gluttony but went to the above place for dinner on Saturday 12/09/09 even though I had a pretty big lunch. Anyway, we arrived at 5pm and mind you people don't go after 5.30pm or expect a long wait for your food. I am a big fan of fish head steamboat. Have tried a couple of places and ultimately this place still gets my thumbs up and we always return. There was a point in time I was so addicted to this steamboat, I can come here like 2-3 times a week? Ridiculous but true.

I usually go for the Red Grouper (Ang Gao) Steamboat. Another popular fish people go for here is the pomfret (Chang Yu) Steamboat. I personally prefer pomfret (Chang Yu) steamboat from another place which I will blog another time when I go down there again.

We had the tofu with prawns, gravy of this is spicy and delicious. Drizzle this over a bowl of rice and Yum!! Pity I did not take any rice, decided to restrict my carbo intake for the day already.

The Deep Fried Chicken Wings (Har Cheong Gai) was served piping hot, crispy and the ultimate comfort food. How can anyone go wrong with this dish right? Young or Old, deep fried food rocks!!!

The oyster Sauce vegies (Kailan) was okay but I would have preferred the Sambal KangKong. Aunt did not want this as she felt it was too spicy already with the tofu prawns.

Address: 1382/1383 Serangoon Road.
Please note only this branch is worth going to. Any of their other branches SUX big time!

Imperial Court Shark's Fin Restaurant Pte Ltd

I had been craving Peking Duck for ages. Been some time since I had any juicy, crispy skin duck! I think if I recall correctly, my last Peking Duck was at Asia Grand Restaurant for Mother's Day. That was good stuff! Came across the above restaurant with the Peking Duck Promo for $11.00++ on their website. Well photo of the duck sure does justice to it. So Made a lunch Reservation On Saturday 12/09/09. Went down with the family (Grandma, maid, Aunt and mum) all excited for the duck.

To my disappointment , I saw the Peking Duck that was being served at the next table. It was the smallest duck I had ever seen :-(. That aside, I told myself for the price we were paying what to expect right?!?! Anyway, I requested to have "Sang Choy Bau" (Duck meat fried with vegies etc. - to be eaten wrapped with fresh lettuce). Don't expect this to be free okay people. They charged us $15.00++ for "Sang Choy Bau"! Anyway to make up for the petite Duck which they served. we ordered some promotional Dim Sum at $1.99++. Dim Sum nothing fantastic.

Total Bill Came up to $76.06. Imagine if all this promotion were not in place, bill would have came up to $150 at least? This was for sure my first and last time here. Sorry no pics taken or available yet. Am a Newbie to food blogging.
